Tips on Article Writing
To get the best results with article writing greatly depends on how you approach it. Follow these tips on article writing and you will do much better. What you do is very important to your article being found by people looking for the topic that your article is about and will increase the chance that your article will get picked up by other publishers which is really the name of the article game.
What prompted me to add these tips on article writing are the choice of keywords that most use here and the lack of the keywords being used within the articles. It is to your best interest to read the following tips on article writing.
The first thing to understand is that you should select your keyword before you write your article and the keyword should be targeted toward what you intend to write about.
You must do research to find the appropriate keyword for your article and the keyword should be low to moderate in competition. Don’t use an ultra competitive keyword because your article will never be found. If your article is about casinos don’t use casinos in your article because it is way too competitive. How do I know? I simply checked. Don’t worry I will tell you how to do all this in this article.
To find a keyword for your article go to freekeywords.wordtracker.com. What we want to do is search our main keyword. Let’s say that the main keyword is casino. You would type casino in the search box. I can tell you that the search result for the word casino is 271,000,000 as of this writing. The chance of being found for this keyword is impossible. As I drill down through the sub keyword phrases for the word casino I find the keyword phrase little creek casino which is a lot less competitive and gets a decent amount of daily searches.
To check how competitive a keyword is you will use the allintitile. An allintititle is used to see how many websites have the keyword in the title for the keyword or keyword phrase that you want to use. To do an allintitle go to google.com and in the Google search box type in allintitle:Your Keyword Phrase replacing Your Keyword Phrase with the keyword phrase that you want to use for your article. For the keyword phrase little creek casino the allintitle would look like this allintitle:little creek casino. The allintitle result for little creek casino as of this writing is 428 which is a very low in competition keyword which makes this keyword phrase an excellent choice to use for an article about casinos. While the word casinos is a very broad search term the phrase little creek casino is about a specific casino and is more likely what the searcher is looking for than a broad term like casino which would attract a wide variety of searchers and probably won’t be what the searcher is looking for. Use targeted keyword phrases and your article will do much better.
The search engines put a lot of weight on the title. If you expect your article to do well, make sure that you put your keyword or keyword phrase in the title of your article. For little creek casino you would want your title to look something like this Gambling at Little Creek Casino or maybe Your Stay at Little Creek Casino. Be sure to use your keyword or keyword phrase in the title.
Use your keyword often throughout your article. I have found that using a keyword 2% to 3% of the time in your article is best. Don’t use it less than 2% and not more than 3% of the time. Less than 2% will not give the keyword enough weight and more than 3% will give the search engines the impression that you are trying to spam them for a higher ranking and your article could get penalized. It is important to use your keyword or keyword phrase at the very beginning and very end of your article. Eg: at the begiinng of the first line of your article and at the end of the last line of your article. Make sure that you blend your keywords in so that it makes sense to what you are writing about otherwise it will look like you are keyword stuffing and no-one will pickup or read an article that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Besides, if your article doesn’t make sense it won’t be accepted by any article directory.
Any links in your article should have anchor text that contains your keyword phrase. You should also add an alt tag to your link with your keyword phrase in it. Hyperlinks hold a lot of weight with the search engines because a link can be followed by the search engine spider to other websites. When the search engine crawls your article it will almost always look at any hyperlinks to see where they lead.
Lastly, make sure that you add the keyword or keyword phrase in the author keywords box below the about author box for your article before you submit your article. Also be sure to place your article in the most relevant category. It doesn't make much sense to place an article about HTML in the humor category, now does it?
That’s really all you have to do to submit an article that will do well. I’ve seen so many articles submitted here where the only place that the keyword exists is in author keyword box and not anywhere else and most are either too competitive or are keywords that no-one is looking for. Hopefully this little write up will help authors optimize their articles properly and realistically.
